Happy New Year – What’s so happy?

Last night when the whole world was celebrating New year's eve with different time zones - loud music, dance and dazzling fireworks awaited the Jan 1st. I was on my bed fast asleep. I know, i know, you have every right to judge me. I had to rise early as i had to be fresh for work, yes i worked on Jan 1st, I met a group of dull looking youngsters. Dull is not the word to describe them usually, but considering the fact that they had to come to the college on the new years eve they looked so miserably low.

As i looked at them I instantly felt the need to deliver a speech. I told them that they had no reason to feeling this bad, we sometimes have to do the things that we need to do even though normally everyone wont.  When asked if they felt like losers for  even come to the college to attend a lecture on the New Year's Eve, when all your friends and having fun or partying somewhere else. The answer was loud YES!

I told them they are not losers, for them to feel that way is completely wrong. As i was giving them free gyan (which wasn't free), I reminded them how we are so trapped with the herd mentality. I blatantly ask them what's to happy about the new year. They loudly shouted "HAPPY NEW YEAR". Yes, that's how we have greeted this day. But i wanna ask you this question as well, what's so happy about New year?

Technically every day we wake up is a new year for that day of the year, and we don't celebrate it. I am a rebel, I challenge you all to consider this, to all the happening people, how it a new year when you are hung-over? How is the night of 31st December worthy of celebration when we haven't made the year count?

Is happy new year one day? or should it be a HAPPY year, all year?
